The Process of Crayon-making

That dozens of colors may it be, a crayon is a drawing pen made by mixing paint into wax.

Unable to penetrate, crayons dye onto the picture by adhesion force. Therefore, they are suitable neither for smooth card boards, nor for a fusion color arising from overlapping colors repeatedly. It is an ideal tool for children to learn pastel, as well as for some painters to sketch and paint.

Today let's unveil the process of making crayons.

The main raw materials for making crayons are paraffin wax, mineral wax, special polymer pigments, other filling materials and so on. Mix them all, feed them into the machine and wait for them to be a solid cream. Holes in the bottom of the machine are responsible for shaping the crayons. Once their stabilized shape is formed, crayons are taken out to be rolled with a layer of paper on their surface. Then they are sorted by their colors into different devices, from which drop out a single crayon each time. Finally, pack the crayons as what we see on everyday market.

Two ways of crayon-making are casting and extrusion, for which the ratio in general is 40% C16 ~ C18 fatty acid, 40% wax, 5% various pigments and 15% other fillers. To mention it, for extrusion, the ratio of other fillers can be higher. The demand of wax differs from the diversified surfaces of writing materials such as glass, metal, wood, fabric or other artistic required ones. A new breed enabled by a water-dispersal ingredient added in, the writing crayon can penetrate and diffuse as it meets water.
